Media pundits and newspaper commentators are quick to conclude that Villar is a communist because he has Lisa Masa and Satur Ocampo as guest senatorial candidates in his party. Noynoy’s camp is quick to blame Villar for the attacks on their campaigns in Tarlac or near the Cojuanco-owned Hacienda Luisita. First year college students know that connecting a person to the people he knows or he associates with is illogical and absurd. Nelson Mandela was once a member of the communist party and the ANC (African National Congress) was once considered a terrorist threat by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). US Associate Justice Clarence Thomas was also once a member of a radical Black liberation movement. Both are now venerated in their respective countries, and both denounced their former connections. Mandela distanced himself with the Communists, while Thomas wrote opinions critical of affirmative action and the civil rights movement. Aside from the villarroyo tirade, the so-called communist connection is being mentioned ad infinitum ad nauseum by Noynoy’s camp.

If there is one person that is supported by the revolutionary brand of the left, that person is Noynoy Aquino. In our culture, utang na loob (debt of gratitude) and familial patronage in politics are virulent values practiced even by the communists who consider values as mere social constructs. When Jovito Salonga reiterated his old allegations that Joma Sison ordered the bombing of Plaza Miranda, the old question also surfaced – Why was Ninoy Aquino absent? It would be an absurd conclusion on my part to say that he collaborated with Sison, but there are no valid explanations of his absence until this very day. The communist connection becomes clearer during Corazon Aquino’s administration. During this time, the communist number swell and there is NO counter-insurgency movement by the government. Here, we see that the Reds will have everything to gain in a Noynoy presidency. There is a bond formed by utang na loob to be paid by the Reds to Noynoy through patronizing Noynoy’s family. This makes the villarroyo issue a small speck of dust.
